Kenyon College, the oldest private institution of higher education in Ohio, is located four miles east of Mount Vernon in Gambier, Ohio. Clergyman and educator Philander Chase founded Kenyon College in 1824. Chase created the small, liberal arts college with funds from American and British benefactors. Today, there are 50 buildings on the campus, many of which include stone architecture and gothic spires.
Kenyon enrolls approximately 1500 students representing 48 states and 24 foreign countries. Students get to know their professors well in the small class settings with a student-faculty ratio of 10 to 1.The majority of professors at Kenyon have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in their educational field.
The students attending Kenyon College are also an impressive group. Most of the students graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class and 90 percent of Kenyon graduates who apply to graduate school are accepted.
