Come discover the hidden life of our local waterways during Hellbender Discovery Day—an afternoon of hands-on activities, film, and guided exploration along the Kokosing River.
Meet one of Ohio’s most fascinating (and elusive) residents—the Eastern Hellbender. This giant salamander, sometimes called a “snot otter” or "devil dog," can grow up to two feet long and lives in clean, healthy streams like the Kokosing. As an indicator species, hellbenders help tell us how our waterways are doing—and why protecting them matters.
